Our History

Wanaka Bakpaka first opened its doors as a Backpackers in 1990. Before then our main building had also been run as a hunting lodge and later a restaurant. It is one of the oldest buildings in Wanaka dating back to 1925.
It was originally built in Dunedin for “The New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition” which showcased buildings to tourists and the public in 1925.
Since been run as a Backpackers it has had added two extra buildings and had the kitchen, bathroom, and rooms Remodelled.
